Start with Saginaw’s court-case search

Saginaw County, Michigan links Court Cases and Hearings separately from its property and deed searches. Use the court link for a prosecution. Retain the court name, complete case number, filing year and defendant’s name from a possible match. A property-index result or a jail booking cannot establish how a criminal charge was resolved.

The two main criminal-file routes are the 70th District Court and the 10th Circuit Court. The County Clerk’s Circuit Court Division maintains the official circuit records and a computerized database for cases filed from 1985 onward. That database date is not a statement that older files never existed; ask the clerk about older records.

Follow a felony beyond its district-court beginning

The 70th District Court handles misdemeanors and preliminary stages of felony cases. A felony may move to Circuit Court after a bindover following the preliminary examination. Circuit Court then generally handles later proceedings such as the plea, trial and sentencing. Keep both references when following the same prosecution across court levels.

If the district entry shows transfer or bindover, ask which circuit case followed it rather than treating the district docket as the final outcome. A hearing entry is not a judgment. For disposition proof, identify the dismissal, sentence or other final order and request it from the court that entered it.

Know the Circuit Clerk’s copy and mail-search requirements

Over-the-counter Circuit Court copies cost $1 per page, with an additional $10 if certification is required. The clerk requires a request form and proper identification. For a mailed records search, include $10 for each name, a return envelope, and either a signed release form or a photocopy of the individual’s driver’s license for a criminal-record search.

Address mail to Saginaw County Circuit Court Records, 111 S. Michigan Avenue, Saginaw, MI 48602. Distinguish a paid name search from copying an already identified document, and ask how to pay for the actual copy count. The page does not publish one guaranteed search or copy turnaround, so describe any deadline before arranging delivery.

Contact the District Court for its own public file

The 70th District Court Criminal Division lists 989-790-5385 and the Saginaw County Governmental Center, third floor, 111 S. Michigan, Saginaw, MI 48602. Use that division for a district-held criminal document. Give the full case number and document needed, and ask about public access, certification, copy charges and pickup or mail options.

Do not carry the Circuit Clerk’s fee or mailed-search release rule over to the District Court without confirmation. The published division page establishes its role and contact route but does not state a district copy schedule. If you have only a hearing date, use it with the name and case reference to locate the actual filing.

Use ICHAT for a Michigan history question

Michigan State Police offers ICHAT as a separate Michigan criminal-history search. Prepare the subject’s first and last name, gender and date of birth; the MSP guidance also discusses aliases and other descriptors. Ordinary searches cost $10, with limited fee-waived government and charitable screening categories. Use the account and search category that match the authorized purpose.

ICHAT covers reportable Michigan criminal-history information, including convictions and pending cases, but excludes suppressed information, warrants, federal and tribal records and other states’ histories. It is not the complete Saginaw court file. Use any returned court reference to request the specific order, and do not interpret a missing ICHAT entry as proof that every court collection was searched.

Check a disputed or incomplete result before using it

Compare the person and both court references before attributing a record. If a circuit judgment differs from a district summary, keep the later order and ask the relevant clerk to explain the procedural sequence. For an apparent entry error, send the holding clerk the case number and the conflicting document instead of requesting an unexplained deletion.

For a statewide-history issue, Saginaw’s Criminal Division points to Michigan State Police Criminal Justice Information Center at 517-241-0606. Identify whether the concern is a missing disposition, a mistaken match or a restricted record, and ask for the applicable review procedure. A change to one online display should not be assumed to update every separate repository automatically.
